PPPA ASSISTS THE MYRON STRATTON HOME WITH THEIR PICKLEBALL DREAM

We were contacted by the Myron Stratton Home for assistance with painting pickleball lines on their basketball court for their residents. After a little coordination we were able to put together a team of volunteers to make their dream come true.

We would like to thank:

Mr. Kevin Gardner

Mrs. Lisa Kline

Ms. Nancy Steffy

Mrs. Sharon Kumpf

Mr. Joe Johnson

Mrs. Chelley Gardner-Smith

Kevin Gardner and Lisa Kline did the hard work of measuring and squaring the court while the rest of the team assisted. Kevin donated all of the required equipment and paint and the team worked for three hours in the hot sun to give back to this organization that does so much for others in our community. PPPA donated a portable net and are working to procure some paddles for them to start a pickleball program for their residents.

Chelley who is an administrator at Myron Stratton summed it up like this: “I am stunned and thrilled by their kind generosity! The bid to put in a court was $24,000…they did everything for free and EVEN donated the tape-paint, etc. This is no small thing.”

  MVP COURTS CLOSED FOR RESURFACING!!

The Pickleball Courts at Monument Valley Park are closed to accommodate the ongoing maintenance and resurfacing of the courts.  The work is scheduled to be completed on July 7, 2023. The Great Plains Regional Tournament has reserved the entire pickleball complex from July 8 through 13.  The courts are expected to be available for public use starting on July 14, 2023.

During this time other court locations around the city will be extremely busy. Please be patient as this much needed work is completed.

“Be kind. Be courteous. Love others and be happy. It’s that simple.”

NEW PADDLE UP SIGNAGE AT MVP AND JOHN VENESIA COMMUNITY PARKS

Based on feedback from our members, the Board is continuing to work with Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services to address and improve court access at Monument Valley and John Venezia Community Parks.

This week, pickleball rotation signs explaining the court process were added to each individual court entrance at both locations. With player cooperation this should help new, existing, and out-of-town players understand and adhere to the paddle up/rotation process to ensure fair and equitable court time for all.

HELP LEAVE A LASTING LEGACY AT MVP

The PPPA Board is seeking assistance in building two more paddle troughs for MVP.  The plan is to position each of the troughs (3 total) to a specific section of courts.

  • 1 trough for courts 1 - 6
  • 1 trough for courts 7 - 11
  • 1 trough for courts 12 - 15

This should make it easier for players to see when others are waiting, easier for people waiting to see when courts are opening, and easier for groups to paddle up and play on courts that are closer together.

If you'd like to leave a lasting legacy to the community, and have the skills and the time to help create two more troughs consistent with the one already in place at MVP, please contact us at info@pikespeakpickleball.com

As a side note:

Board volunteers are also in the process of putting up Wasp Traps and Wind Ribbons around the courts at MVP.

  • The traps should help reduce wasp, hornet or yellow jacket problems often encountered in the summer months. Emoji
  • The ribbons should help players adjust serves and returns on the rare occasion when the wind is NOT blowing!
