COLORADO SPRINGS UTILITIES PROJECT ON MONUMENT CREEK
PPPA MEMBERS, Please be aware of the following work that will be taking place near the MVP Courts. This work will not disrupt parking on entry to the courts.
Good afternoon Pikes Peak Pickleball Association,
I am contacting you today to let you know about a project that Colorado Springs Utilities is starting next week. The website listed below will be live tomorrow and will provide project updates and progress photos and videos. In the next week, trail signs will be installed, providing direction on the trail detours along the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail.
We are improving an eroded section of Monument Creek between Mesa Rd. and W. Bijou St. This project begins Monday, October 9 and will continue through the second quarter of 2024. The project site is 3,500’ and will stabilize Monument Creek by raising the channel bottom in select locations to pre-erosion levels, installation of boulder drop structures and rock riffles (shallow, faster moving sections of the creek to control energy dissipation), creation of low-level submerged rock structures, and installation of bank reinforcement. A new recreational pedestrian access ramp will provide Parks users with safe access to the channel corridor for recreational activities while allowing occasional Springs Utilities maintenance activities. The pedestrian underpass will supplement the at-grade Pikes Peak Greenway Trail crossing at Mesa Road.
We are committed to preserving historic components of the corridor, as well as reducing environmental impacts of our work.
For everyone's safety, we request that the public follow the marked trail detours along the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail. To follow the project updates and learn how we'll protect historic areas while restoring the creek, visit csu.org/monumentcreek. Customers may contact us at engage@csu.org or 719-668-7765 for more information.
