OPEN PLAY AND PADDLE-UP PROCESS REMINDER

The return of PPPA Round Robins is a hopeful indication of warmer weather and more opportunities to play outdoors!

Below is a reminder of the Open Play and the Paddle-Up processes used at Monument Valley and Bear Creek Regional Parks.  Please take a moment to review and share this information with others.

___________________________________

Monument Valley Park Open Play Process:

If less than four players are waiting at the court you are playing on, please be courteous and provide them with the needed players from your group for the next game. Player rotations may be decided at each court.

Monument Valley Park Paddle-Up Process:

A 3-Trough system is used when the courts at MVP are full and players are waiting for an open court.  Paddles should be stacked LEFT to RIGHT (4 for doubles and 2 for singles) to determine the next set of players in the queue for each set of courts. The left-most set of paddles will proceed to the first open court in that set.  All other paddles should be moved to the left to keep players properly in order in the queue.

  • To play on courts 1-6, paddle up in the trough located on the west side of court 6
  • To play on courts 7-11, paddle up in the trough located by the flagpole
  • To play on courts 12-15, paddle up in the trough located on the west side of court 15

Games are played to 11 (win by 2).   When you finish your game, please leave the court and call out “COURT OPEN” so players that are paddled up can proceed to the open court.  Players leaving the courts can restack their paddles in the queue to play again.

>>PLAYERS WAITING IN THE QUEUE NEED TO STAY CLOSE TO THE DESIGNATED COURTS AND ALERT TO WHICH COURT BECOMES AVAILABLE TO AVOID UNNESSARY DELAYS IN PLAY.

Signs explaining the paddle-up process have been placed at the entrance of EACH court. Your help in adhering to and assisting new players and visitors with the paddle-up system is appreciated and will benefit all players.

Bear Creek Regional Park Open Play Process:

If less than four players are waiting at the court you are playing on, please be courteous and provide them with the needed players from your group for the next game. Player rotations may be decided at each court.

Bear Creek Paddle-Up Process:

BC uses paddle up racks to determine the next players in the queue.  The 12 courts are divided into 4 quadrants (1-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12) with one paddle up rack for each quadrant.

Parties waiting for an open court stack paddles LEFT to RIGHT (4 for doubles, 2 for singles) in the rack of their choice, to determine the next set of players in the queue. The left-most set of paddles will proceed to the first open court in the quadrant.  All other paddles should move to the left to keep players properly arranged in the queue. Please pay attention to see which of the three courts in your quadrant finish first.

Games are played to 11 (win by 2).   When you finish your game, please leave the court and call out “COURT OPEN” so players that are paddled up can proceed to the open court.  Players leaving the courts can restack their paddles in the queue to play again.

>>PLAYERS WAITING IN THE QUEUE NEED TO STAY CLOSE TO THE COURTS AND ALERT TO WHICH OF THE THREE COURTS IN THEIR QUADRANT FINISH FIRST TO AVOID UNNESSARY DELAYS IN PLAY.
